we have three double rooms available. Details are below.
- Hoy View has a super king-sized bed. This can be altered into two single beds if required. The room has two vintage-style nursing chairs which look out over the town towards Hoy.
- Scapa View has a king sized bed with a brass and enameled bed stead, guaranteeing a good night's sleep after a day's exploring in the bright Orkney air. This room has a chaise longue original to the house (and recently re-upholstered by Joy), from where you can watch the world go by and watch the sea change.
Both rooms have an en suite shower room. They feature fantastic wetroom-feel showers with a waterfall drench head along with a directional spray head. The rooms are fully tiled in warm-to-touch Travertine tiles and are fully air-conditioned with bright lighting. The mirrors feature de-mist technology and can be set to switch on when you enter the room. Heated chrome towel rails are a finishing touch.
- North View is a standard double room, with a memory foam mattress for a restorative night's sleep. The bed stead is brass. The room looks north, towards the road into the west mainland. In the summer, you'll see the cows coming out of the milking parlour as you get ready for breakfast. North View has it's own private facilities which are right next door.
We use Egyptian cotton sheets and silk duvets, for smooth warmth. In your room you'll find Freeview televisions, with DVD players. There is a selection of DVDs you can borrow - just ask Joy or Robbie. You'll also find a hairdryer, kettle, cups and hot drinks. If you enjoyed the complimentary Afternoon Tea on arrival, you can ask for further cakes and homebakes.
Our rooms are freshly decorated in keeping with the 1950s style of Burnside farmhouse. You can sit at an original vanity table and watch the farm-life in the foreground, with the most scenic background you can imagine. Each season brings different light to the land and seascape: you'll want to experience each time of year from the comfort of our farm.
Breakfast is served in our beautiful and spacious porch: it enjoys panoramic views across Scapa Flow towards Hoy. You can sit here at any time of the day.
